Guess who?

question-mark1Provide each student with a sheet of A3 paper and some felt tip pens. Instruct them to draw 3 images associated with them. For example, they may choose to draw a map of where they were born, their favourite TV show, an item of clothing, a favourite food, their mobile phone…..leave it up to them to decide. Once each student has completed their picture, provide them with blu tack and ask them to display them on the walls around the room. Students must then go round and correctly match up the pictures with the person who drew them and find out their name. You can join in too and draw your own pictures for students to guess. To finish, go round all of the pictures and ask the student who drew it to stand up and introduce themselves.

Odd one out

Display four images from a topic on the interactive whiteboard. These images can be theorists/key people/objects/places etc and three of them should have something in common whilst the fourth would be the odd one out. Students must decide which three have something in common and which one is the odd one out and explain why. Students take turns suggesting who is the odd one out and the reasons for their choice. This can help students to revisit materials which they have previously learned.

You say, we (don’t) pay!

speech-bubbleBased on the TV game, create a slideshow with lots of images relating to the topic previously studied. The images should change automatically after 10 seconds. Divide the class into two or three teams. The first team must select a player who sits with their back to the screen. Their team members take it in turns to describe each image to the player without using the actual name of the person or object. The player has up to 10 seconds to guess before moving onto the next team member and image on the slideshow. A point is scored for each correctly identified item/person etc.

Picture this

mindmapAt the start of each topic create mnemonics using pictures to illustrate studies/theories/ideas etc that have to be remembered. Construct a mindmap to include key headings within the topic and for each heading think of an image that you might associate with the heading. See who can come up with the most creative image in the class.  Constructing a mindmap like this will help students to develop a framework to ‘peg’ information onto.

Picture Boards

collageCreate a collage of images to illustrate key aspects of the topic you are about to study. Display this on the interactive whiteboard (or print off copies for students) and ask them to discuss what they think the pictures are about. This can lead to a discussion to introduce the topic with the teacher feeding into the discussion and providing an overview of the content that will be covered.
